Miuccia’s latest: crimp and crumple

September 24, 2008

Prada Spring 09′

“Going primitive – going back to the essence of things – I wanted to clean it up,”— Miuccia after showing.

Seems like it’s not only Raf that’s bringing sexyback, Miuccia has done it too. I know there have been other sexy collections from her but this one she is really baring it, from high slits to midriffs. Miuccia did her usual experimentation with fabrics, most of the looks are very crinkled and somehow she managed to make it look very chic, must be the proportions, and not look like toilet paper dangling all over the body. There is something fresh about it, the fabrics make the looks very light and it’s just so spring/summer. I can predict that golden metallics is a must-have trend for the next season. Another thing is the styling and makeup, it is very mature—sleek updos, earrings, minimal makeup—which balances the entire feel of the collection very well. But if you don’t like the collection, then uh-oh, you have to bear with seeing these crinkled pieces over and over again next year when it start popping up on covers and countless editorials. And the thing about Miuccia’s work is that, you need time to take it in. (click here to see full collection)

As for the show, the shoes killed it. Yulia, the Jil Sander opener, fell very badly. Stam stumbled and a model took off her shoes as she walked. It’s almost a train-wrecked, and out of all places, at Prada. You go girls.

More about the castings: Toni Garrn, Cato van Ee, Imogen, Sasha Pivovarova, Lara Stone walked the show, but not Irina K, Georgina S, Vlada, Freja Beha and Cat McNeil… Ymre Stiekema, the one in the Prada Linea Rossa Fall 08′ ad opened (she’s also an exclusive) and Sigrid Agren, the French lady whom I warned you about, closed the show. Stay very closely tuned to these two faces, even if Prada is not much of a star-making machine nowadays, you never know what is going to happen until Paris…

Cat McNeil is one of those models who people love or hate. Personally, I love her. She reminds me of Cindy Crawford.

Those shoes are gorgeous but ridiculously high. Crazy shoes!

Not sure about the wrinkled fabric in the collection. It looks too Japanese.

i feel very bad for yulia… just saw the video of the show, she rebounced back pretty quickly but i guess this will go down the history, considering that there aren’t many models who fell during Prada show before, in fact i can’t rmb when’s the last time someone fell.

    i wanna give her a hug 😀

These shoes can’t be gorgeous because they make even pretty legs and feet look ugly, unnatural and are not meant for walking at all! Or to dance on these??

“Going primitive – going back to the essence of things – I wanted to clean it up,”— Miuccia after showing. Huh, whats she talking about? Anyone who can explain to me what she really said/meant???

I wonder if Miuccia herself walks on shoes like this…..or IF she has ever walk on these heels…..its so unnaturel that I don’t see any comparison with what she said???

At least Muiccia said that the shoes are going to be less difficult to walk when theyll get to the stores, some of the pieces are really interesting.

@Nana: according to Hilary of Telegraph, it’s supposed to be ‘flintstone’. Think what happened waaaaaaay back then when humans doesn’t wear fabrics.

Finally a hot Prada is all I can say for now… So much better than anything for the past few years. Maybe a bit simpleminded, but a strong look nevertheless. Ymre rules!
