Comparing this editorial to the US Vogue one, I think this is a lot more classy and creative. Harper’s Bazaar is using very fresh-faced models ( Alyona Osmanova, Carolina Pantoliano, Johanna Stickland & Rachel Clark) and better poses & stylings. The eye makeup is similar to Louis Vuitton’s FW0708 show’s and the ladders are really appropriate props for this shoot.

I was randomly browisng through all the collections and I realize how boring menswear  can be. Almost every designer is going for the light tones (white, grey,white, grey…) and nothing is really outstanding.  I know menswear are more restricted in some sense but how about some creativity? Prada did prints as usual, Gucci’s got royal gentlemens, Dolce&Gabbana went for sexy machoism… …

Burberry Prorsum’s show really caught my eyes. I admired all the pieces and I couldn’t believe how talented Christopher Bailey is. Menswear is not really my kind of thing but seriously, I’ll fall in love with any guy who wears these….

The colours are bold & vibrant and so suited for summer. Check out those sequins & metallics… and the accessories are f-a-b-u-l-o-u-s.

By the way, you might have seen what happens at the backstage of womenswear shows. The girls get their makeup done, play a fool with cameras, chat with fellow models, listen to music… and now check out what do these GORGEOUS male models do at backstage.

they compare the size of their bulging biceps (i’m kidding)

they eat, a lot.

All I can say is, at the backstage of a menswear show, it is a total ‘Hunks Paradise’.

After last season’s Karen Elson, DSquared2 has decided to turn to more modelling powerhouses– Caroline, Raquel (why do photographers like to pair the two of them together?) and Hilary. Love the classic black & white settings paired with some ultra cool styling… can you say ‘teenage rebellion’?

Don’t you think this ad lacks creativity? Anyway, that jacket Julia’s wearing is adorable.

Calvin Klein
model: Suvi Koponen

Finnish model Suvi, who famously opened the Prada SS07 show, replaces the pregnant Natalia Vodianova in another super serious and very straightforward ad from Calvin Klein. The silhouettes & details of the gown & neckline are amazing. CK ads don’t need much settings, poses or atmosphere, the clothes says it all, they are a statement on its own.

Chloe
models: Shalom Harlow, Anja Rubik and Freja Beha

Oops, I’ve only gotten half of the picture but anyway, from what I can see here, it looks almost the same as last season’s ad. Shalom looks a little like Keira Knightley here don’t you agree? And I love Anja’s new bob haircut. This collection has a ‘rebel’ theme but I’m not seeing much of that here..

Bottega Venetta
models: Inguna Butane, Anja Rubik, Kim Noorda

This label is such a symbol of softness, feminine, class and sophistication and I think this ad stands for all that. The dressing table, the gloomy mood… it’s quietly beautiful.

Dolce & Gabbana
models: Coco Rocha, Vlada Rosylakova, Kasia Struss, Georgia Frost & Hye Park

Well I think the Italian design duo’s concept of ad campaign is getting boring. They love to use sexual elements to sell the products but keep insisting there’s ‘art’ within those shots. How unhealthy can these get? Underage girls playing with a bunch of naked men? Also, there is the theme of slavery and cruelty clearly shown here.

D&G

The D&G ads look better though. The lightings and the golden metallic background… it’s pure class & glamour.

After last season’s Kate Moss & Jamie Dornan, the latest ‘Beauty & Hunk’ pairing goes to the very promising Lara Stone & Jamie Burke (?).

I’m still in love with last season’s very graphically artistic ads and the latest from Kenzo are not disappointing I say. There’s this ’spanish’ thing going on in that collection and I think Olga totally rocked these shots.

Longchamp
model: Kate Moss

These ads are very dreamy but very dark in tone. I think this is the best Kate Moss Longchamp ad campaign of all.

Gucci
model: Natasha Poly

Ladies watch out. That Gucci indy bag is going to be one of the hottest bags this season.

Burberry
models: Agyness Deyn, Lily Donaldson, Kiera Gormley, Morwenna Lytton Cobbold and Georgia Frost.
No Kate Moss! *gasp* But Agyness Deyn took over as the campaign star leading another bevy of English belles to front this FW0708 ad campaign. Love the cool & edgy look of the collection, it suits Aggy so well.

Jimmy Choo
model: Heather Marks

These ads are quite bland and a little boring considering the fact that Jimmy Choo is a luxury brand and I can’t see much glamour here. Plus, Heather is too baby-faced to pull off that rich-girl-jetsetter-look.

Rosa Cha
model: Caroline Trentini

Caroline is the resident fixture of Rosa Cha. No surprise here. She’s got the confidence & body to work it out for this label.

Yves Saint Laurent Beauty

The girl with the natural beauty is all glammed up here for this beauty campaign.

Marc Cain

I love the atmosphere of these ads even though I’ve never really heard of this label.

Finally! New clothes from the Fall/Winter 07/08 collections being showcased in magazine editorials. I have been anticipating how the editorials & ad campaigns will be like. US Vogue has been using the same models and poses over and over again. I think there are way more gorgeous models out there than Coco Rocha, Raquel Zimmermann, Caroline Trentini and Sasha Pivovarova. Lack of creativity? I can’t wait for Steven Meisel’s take on FW0708 pieces.

Sasha in a Versace fur coat. Cold season= fur time!

Coco Rocha in Dolce & Gabbana. I love how the chiffon is layered over heavy white fur.

Raquel & Caroline in John Galliano. That runway show is very memorable because of all the dramatic makeup & settings.

Raquel & Caroline in Marni. The cut of the clothes is very sharp and the fabrics are amazing!

Raquel in Yves Saint Laurent. I was talking about ‘Menswear for Women’ a few posts ago, this is definitely a must-try trend for FW0708

Coco in Rick Owens. The dark & edgy ‘rock-star’ look is also being featured in H&M’s Fall/Winter 07/08 collection. By the way, I think Coco looks very darling & adorable here!

Raquel in Donna Karan. I love this collection! It’s has a very urban feel and foldings & layerings are pretty innovative.

Coco in Ralph Lauren collection. Chic officewear… trendspotted: rolled-up sleeves & high waist skirt

Raquel & Caroline in Louis Vuitton. That collection is all about this ‘artist’ look . The skirts are fabulous, love the metallics.

Caroline in Louis Vuitton and Raquel in Proenza Schouler. Black is a must-have colour for Fall/Winter. Spice it up with some neon colours so that you won’t look dull.

Sasha in Lanvin. This ‘mad scientist’ look is freaky. The hair, her eyes… and yes, bold shoulders, reminiscent of the ’80s power dressing, they’re back in a big way literally.

Caroline in Nina Ricci and Raquel in Christian Dior. I will kill for that entire Dior ensemble.

Sasha in Prada. What’s with her hair? (reminds me of  lion, sorry) Check out the fabrics, it spells E-X-P-E-N-S-I-V-E, and notice that layer of fur peeking underneath?

Caroline in Ann Demeulemeester.

Caroline in Balenciaga. This season’s Balenciaga is big on these few trends: large scarves, bold printed jackets and the military look.
(I have been seeing Caroline jumping everywhere… in the Lacoste ads, editorials… *yawns* )

Renown fashion makeup artist Pat McGrath, touted as one of the most important figures in the fashion world, is not only busy at the backstage of those glitzy runway shows, she is also the beauty expert and creative force behind the New MAX Factor line. So far, this makeup line has done the magic for numerous coveted runway shows (Haute Couture!) and its fans include supermodels like Gisele & Naomi.

I found this video of Pat herself giving makeup tips using the latest range of Max Factor products at the backstage of Oscar de la Renta FW0708 show on models Caroline Trentini and Emina Cunmulaj.

By the way, talking about makeups, I’m so impressed with this Numero magazine spread featuring Jessica Stam.





Stam’s eyes are haunting but stunning at the same time. She can pull off so many kinds of makeup.
I noticed that if you want to make either your lips or eyeshadow bold, you have to keep the rest of the makeup bland to balance. I’ve seen purple, orange lips on Donna Karan’s runway a few seasons ago… and they don’t look bizarre as you thought it would be!

Marc Jacobs campaigns have always been weird. It’s definitely not going for glamour but instead use creativity to catch people’s attention. That works though, remember last season’s ad featuring Dakota Fanning? Everybody was talking about it.

Somehow I feel that it represents how Marc Jacobs transformed from cute & chubby to the current super ‘handsome’ and buffed guy. He has shrunk, so did his designs and ads.

Moreover, when it appears on the pages of fashion magazines, it will most likely spur on people’s curiosity and make them stare at this ad more than other ads. I did that when Dakota’s ad came out. It’s all about wonders & creativity that sell products very well.
