In Conversation

May 8, 2009

Show day for Gareth Pugh. It started with an “In Conversation” session with Colin McDowell, Gareth Pugh, Katie Shillingford of Dazed & Confused and Matthew Stone at the Singapore Art Museum in the afternoon before the show.

Gareth was very coy about the Dior Homme rumours when pressed on about it, he mentioned that LVMH “showed a lot of interest”, and then went off topic to talk about his own menswear instead. But it is easy to sense that he was hiding something…

He also gave a hint about his upcoming Spring 2010 collection. The previous collection is about circles, now triangles and so the next will be all about squares. He likes his clothes to be architectural.

They also spoke about the video presentation for his Fall 09 collection which surprised the fashion crowd during Paris fashion week. The model in the video, Natasha Vojnovic was really into the ‘role’, they joked that the director didn’t even capture how insane she is. But overall, they felt that it is a way to explore the silhouettes via visuals instead of runways since it is very different for them now to present in Paris during this economy.

Katie Shillingford was really lovely. I am huge fan of Dazed’s covers and edgy styling.

Ending this post with a quote from Gareth:

“I don’t make clothes for specific people, I am not a lifestyle designer.”

I am sorry but he is a lifestyle designer, the alternative goth/indie scenester look is a lifestyle in parts of London and Brighton too.
