The madness at H&M + CDG launch

November 10, 2008

Actually, the same scene happens for every H&M designer collaboration. Let it be Viktor & Rolf or Cavalli. At the Tokyo launch, 2000 people queued up for the opening in the cold (check out this guy in Margiela shades who answered ”14 hours” when asked about how long he had been waiting).

Peter Lindberg the campaign’s photographer, Margareta van den Bosch the head of design at H&M and Hilary Alexander of Daily Telegraph also made their appearance in this video, talking about the collaboration as well as Rei Kawakubo. I especially like what Hilary said of Rei, “she is this tremendous kind of unseen force behind contemporary fashion”. Indeed, indeed.

Lastly, who would you like to see collaborating with H&M next? They can be quite unexpected, but I am guessing Luella Bartley, Dries van Noten, Max Azria, Alessandro Dell’Acqua, Vivienne Westwood… You know, one can always dream.

This collaboration is great indeed, but I think everyone buying the same product then it doesn’t make the clothes to be individual or unique. Although the price is cheap and the brand is CDG, but at the end, the value of this collaboration is still contain an H&M tag.

Raf Simons could be cool, Theyskens might be a good contrast to CDG…. Dries on the other hand seems to me to do a lot of basics with luxury materials, and that wouldn`t work for H&M.
