October 08′ magazine covers

October 1, 2008

Vogue Italia

Anna Maria Jagodzinska in Prada. Can’t really recognize her in this but yes very retro chic. Viktoriya and Sessilee were said to be included on the cover too but Anna, making a huge comeback this season nabbed it. You can see their editorial here

And have you noticed the browless look is getting so popular this seaso? First at the Marc Jacobs show, yesterday at the Balenciaga show and now on the VI cover…

Vogue Paris

Christy Turlington in D&G and Margiela jewellery. Their covers don’t really disappoint and it is always good to see some supers coming back once in a while. I have previewed a few editorials inside, the ‘Afro-disiaque‘, Anna S by Hedi and there is also another one with Erin Wasson.

Vogue US

Rachel Weisz in Rodarte. They might be a little random with their celeb cover stars but this is one of the better ones that I have seen in months. I like how distinguishable US Vogue’s covers are as they hardly use plain studio backgrounds, it looks almost like a lifestyle magazine but this one the colours are lovely, Rachel looks sharp and not overly-photoshopped. I have this issue with me!

Do check out the ‘Natural High’ editorial by Meisel. For me that’s the highlight of the issue.

Vogue UK

Kate Moss fronts her national Vogue for the umpteenth time, in Atelier Versace and Haute parka.

Can you say, ”where’s the element of surprise?”

Vogue Epsana

Malgosia Bela making her return to the cover. Looks like US Vogue from first glance. Hmmmm.

Vogue Russia

Raquel Zimmermann in Balmain. Compare this to the previous Anna Selezneva cover this is pretty bland. And I don’t know why but it looks a little bit like a budget shot to me? Is that some bad lighting that I see?

Vogue Germany

Magdalena Frackowiak in Dior. I am not a fan of pink but I love everything about this cover. You definitely need a brunette model to make it work.

Vogue China

Du Juan in Gucci. It is OK if they are obssessed with her, she is stunning anyway. I quite like how ethnic and tribal (in the very Chinese way) they’ve styled her but the cover is borderline boring.

Vogue Nippon

Lily Donaldson in Dolce & Gabbana.

Vogue Korea

Carla Bruni in Dior Spring 08′. This might be a reprint from September Vanity Fair, but it is a very good shot, stunning in many ways.

Vogue India

Aishwarya Rai in Dior couture (the gown looks so amazing). It is their first anniversary! Remember one year ago Gemma Ward was on their premier issue?

Vogue Australia

Uh-oh, reprint again. Unlike Korean Vogue their reprint is always bad… I don’t understand the hot pink fonts.

Numéro

Stephanie Seymour making a comeback… The black and white plus the setting is pretty different from their usual covers. By year end they will churn out their #100 issue I can’t wait for that.

Numéro Tokyo

Coco Rocha in Louis Vuitton

Numéro Korea

Hilary Rhoda rocking the androgynous look in Garçons.

i-D

Natasha Poly in Dolce & Gabbana and Ralph Lauren.

Dazed & Confused

Abbey Lee Kershaw in Gareth Pugh. D&C’s covers never disappoints, this is simply haunting.

W

Anne Hathaway in Dior Couture.

Harper’s BAZAAR US

Kirsten Dunst in Dolce & Gabbana. This is a really different cover and somehow I love how Kirsten is photographed and styled.

Harper’s BAZAAR UK

Liv Tyler (she’s one of my favourite celeb) looking really stunning… The cover says ‘back to black’ because most editorials inside feature black clothes. Check out Liv and Dita von Teese’s eds.

Magdalena Frackowiak is absolutely beautifull on the cover

US Vogue covers are almost always shot outdoors and featured full body photos. This was because Anna Wintour wanted to create a new image for Vogue and distance herself from her predecessor, Grace Mirabella who almost always used close-up face shot done inside a studio. 🙂

Loved Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, way back when she was modeling in the early 1990s. Still love her!! I actually went out and bought the Vanity Fair issue with her on the cover when it first came out.

There is a big hoopla in the gossip news this week about the US Harper’s Bazaaar cover. Supposedly, Kirsten Dunst’s fangs were “edited out” in the cover photo.

I am not a lily donaldson fan but that cover is one of her best pics ever. I love to see the supers on covers.
