Faceless at Paris

October 1, 2008

Comme des Garçons and Martin Margeila Spring 09′

The ultimate avant garde-ians. They own that term, no joke.

About Margiela, I am in awed with his form of presentation as usual. The clothes, needless to say, are beyond imagination. The visual impact is so great I don’t even know if they should be regarded simply as clothes, it sounds disrespecting. In an economy time like this, every designer would have been pressured to sell sell sell. But still, a few wearable pieces aside, he remained to ignore the human form and put up a show that give us, the audience, full of illusions and towards another dimension of fashion. I know there are rumours about him finding a successor, but who can follow up to him?

The necklace, recently worn by Christy Turlington on the latest cover of Vogue Paris.

Aren’t you simply speechless?

Actually, I have the opposite reaction to avant garde designs. I find them a little over-indulgent in that they don’t think about who their clients are and what their clients want. They create a world of their own and expects everyone to adapt to them.

That said, these are more like work of art than fashion.

Better than his usual fare no doubt… I`d like to try that birthday cake on for size. But yes, poetry he can do, when he wants, like no one else.
