Versace, advanced

September 26, 2008

There are brands/labels out there which I guess many people can’t take them seriously, but everyone will probably start looking at Versace very differently. It is not a brand with too many over the top sexy clothes that you can imagine Beyonce prancing around in, or normal wearable flirty dresses that are just simply red carpet ready, Donatella has been balancing sophistication with sexy for the past few seasons now and putting so much more effort into the craftsmanship and execution. There are no boring gowns with boring shapes (ahem at Frida), the last few looks have architecture, seduction and elegance balanced very well together, who doesn’t want to wear that? To add on to the flirtatious vibe there are heart shaped details in many dresses, but yet it doesn’t look trashy, that’s pretty genius. And as usual, Donatella experimented with prints with a number of maxi and mini dresses. Talk about wide appeal.

Casting wise, Jourdann Dunn made history again by becoming the first black girl in five years to walk Versace (the last is Liya at Spring 04′). Not many new girls got cast and Daria didn’t appear. Natasha opened , Lily Donaldson closed.

Ok, i loved this collection, i totally agree with you when you say Donatella is putting more attention in craftmanship and execution!

The golden dress on Natasha kinda reminded one dress from last season Givenchy ! but its ok 🙂
