Blogs that make a difference
You might be sick of the issue of racial diversity in the modeling world in the recent months, but as things are getting more balanced, I think we should not forget about some fashion bloggers that have been supporting asian/black models. They might not have as much impact as Vogue Italia but they surely deserve a mention for their effort.
This 6800 members strong LJ community is known for the runway and model images. Just recently, a lot of new and underrated black models’ pictures and profiles have been posted. Sabina Karlsson, Mia Niara, Marie Fuema… I didn’t notice how gorgeous all of them are until I saw their closeups and editorials in this community. And what a waste that Vogue Italia couldn’t squeeze all of them into that issue.
These are fashion blogs by Chic Noir and Brigitte respectively. Not only do they blog mostly about black models & celebs, they also express their views on the issue. Like what Brigitte would say ”Is it just me? Or do you wonder where these people are looking when they claim that they can’t find any black models?”. You got to give it her. Moreover, I also learned about interesting trivias like how many black Miss Universe Winners are there, from Chic Noir.
Simply look through all the editorials, cover and campaigns of many asian models from major to minor, and you will know why Christian Siriano professed ”asians are fierce”.
One last thing, have you ever wonder, why are there so few black designers out there? In fact, I can’t even think of one that is in the major league…
