Milan menswear SS09′ wrap-up

June 25, 2008

For those who actually cares about menswear… let’s start with some trendspotting.

Bottega Veneta                                       Dolce & Gabbana

Baring it
Burberry Prorsum                                    Prada
Wow… ‘male cleavage’ anyone?

Alexander McQueen                               Versace

McQueen menswear is my favourite this season. Love the Margiela-sque influence in it and how body conscious the pieces are. He also showcased his resort collection (which reportedly makes up 60% of the brand’s profits) at the show because “they both go into the shop together”.

After McQueen, my second fav goes to Marni. It’s those shirts, you know.

And what’s not to highlight about Raf Simon for Jil Sander’s amazingly well-structured suits? That jacket is to-die-for. But not many people are a fan of his (favourite) colourblocking creations.
(See theimagist’s review)

Must mention—— Gucci’s very fierce oversized patent croc bags. And how many of you here agree with me that Frida is in fact better at menswear than womenswear?

Now, on to male models.

Etro                                                        Vivienne Westwood
‘Grandpa is that you?’, and that macho man at Westwood is a complete opposite from all those pale emo boys we used to see on the runways. He is an actor and bodyguard by the way.

Please! Someone tell Mathias that this is not the way to showoff a newly launched fragrance!

Lastly, some random backstage shots.

Paris menswear next!

Love the beautiful details on Alexander McQueen & Versace’s collection — subtle but distinct.

Loved McQueen, Barrett, & Klein. Prada was something else.

pyjamas! well bryanboy did already wear his pjs out to the club… haha but i’m not sure if anyone would pay a premium price for pyjamas-looking suits.

i always liked raf simons for jil sander, but i do secretly wished that he injected a teeeeeeeny weeny bit of print to break up the colour blocking a bit. but i guess it adds leaps and bounds to the whole minimalist feel.

I am a bit troubled by the male model’s shoes from the McQueen backstage photo… And I will develop a strong and unhealthy obsession about that fierce croc blue bag! It’s simply gorgeous. I would’ve loved it better if it wasn’t croc. then again, nobody’s perfect 😉

McQueen does look strong. Anyways, I haven`t had much time on the computer lately, but: Thanks so much!

Sorry, I’m not really overjoyed with this looks….but I’m very impressed by Raf Simon’s perfect tailoring I wish I could hold a piece in my hand to study it….My weak spot is my admiration for real craftmanship.
I like that blue Dolce & Gabbana ‘pajama’ it makes me want to go on a nice holiday.

Grandpa? Excuse me? That’s a nice looking older -not old, older-, charmer, to die for to look that good on his age whatever it is.
Vivienne Westwood almost never fails to make me smile…Lets face it, in the world of fashion so celebs these body-guards have become very important persons!

I am desperate to know who is the model on the top right hand corner of the last shot, the random backstage shot. I’ve been trying to find out who he is for ages.
