Imitating Agyness

June 10, 2008

I just saw this set of photos of Agyness Deyn strolling in a park with pals Henry Holland and Nick Grimshaw and her outfit reminds me of what my vintage-loving classmate once wore.

I still remember that day when I joked about how Agyness Deyn she looked. Especially the part where she wore red socks over black patent shoes (they are from Topshop). However, she isn’t a fan of the model and so she doesn’t dress like her everyday, in case you are wondering if young girls really look up to the style icon  (according to I-D) as an inspiration.

Talking about Agyness, she will not be appearing in any Fall campaigns. Armani and Burberry have dropped her, but at least, she’s got a fragrance ad— which means she will be hanging in there for while.

I’m not a huge fan of her style, but she can definitely do her job. It’s so unfair she’s been dropped from these campaigns just because she’s too famous these days. It’s such a ridiculous reason. The same applies to Sasha and Prada. Prada’s image has been built around Sasha, and nw they’re dropping her for Linda Evangelista?

I reckon “supermodels” aren’t back after all. THE supermodels of the 90s are, but the whole concept of it isn’t. Sasha, Aggy, Snejana, Raquel, Stam, Gemma, Iekeline, Lily and Natasha should be doing 3 or more campaigns per season. They should bet on them, not on Isabela Fontana, Kate, Naomi, Linda and the likes of the 90s crowd.

Your classmate proves to me as so often that models and celebs are NOT the style-icons they get credits for.

I think the real reason Agyness is dropped by these brands she’s just not a real great model and/or not right for these brands.
Are the supermodels of the 90’s really back? Or is this another season hype? After all isn’t fashion the last decade not as fast as hamburgers are?

I somehow see Her Aggyness as targeting 12-year olds. She would be perfect for a kids morning show: all pep, smiles, colors and laughs.

people often complain that there are no real supermodels any more, but how can there be when they get dropped as soon as they become a household name? i can’t even remember the last time i saw gemma ward in a campaign, or lily cole for that matter. personally i think agyness is a lot more interesting as a model than these eastern european clones with dead eyes.
