The annual MET ball— overview

May 7, 2008

Many celebs did not dress up to the ‘Superheroes’ theme. I had expected a lot of bold colours and metallics but it seems like the attendees would rather play the safe card, how unexciting. I do like a few outfits though:

Photobucket
Camilla Belle in Armani Prive, is my favourite out of all the others. Not only do I love the ocean blue, the frills and the layerings are really pretty and soft.

Photobucket
Joy Bryant in Emilio Pucci with Matthew Williamson got my vote as the best model-designer collaboration. Instead of going for the usual black tuxedo, Matthew actually went for a cartoon look and with Bryant, they gave the event a much needed dose of bright bold colours.

Photobucket
Charlotte Gainsbourg in Balenciaga, with Nicolas Ghesquiere were fiercest pair on the red carpet.

Photobucket
Most structured— Amber Valleta in Versace Atelier and Anna Wintour in Chanel Haute Couture.

Photobucket
I was quite surprised that Claudia Schiffer wore Valentino and attended the event with the retired designer. She did not walk in his shows or appeared in his campaigns, shouldn’t she be donning Chanel and pose with Karl Lagerfeld instead?

Photobucket
Best-dressed models— Caroline Trentini in vintage Thierry Mugler, Coco Rocha and Anja Rubik, both in Emilio Pucci.

Photobucket
Emmy Rossum in Phi— probably the worst look of the night.

Kata MAra and ZAc POsen were very super hero! And sasha Pivovarova looked understated superhero, and Bea (anna WIntour’s daughter) looked cute. I think you can never go wrong in Nina Ricci, Olivier is a genius!

hmm personally i felt the best-dressed person who actually bothered to follow the Superhero theme was Naomi Watts in her one-off Thierry Mugler – the white pleated strapless gown with the star brooch in the middle?

    Marilyn Monroe + Wonder Woman!

also, there was Dr.Lisa Airan in her diaphanous Rodarte Spring 2008 gown – the one that Irina Kulikova wore; the blue cascading waves one.

Airan is SUCH a good Rodarte fan lol.

loved Amber’s Versace Atelier Spring 2008 but Anna’s custom-designed Chanel couture took the cake of course. i think it was a modified version of the Spring 2008 couture dress that Suvi Koponen wore on the runway – but all kudos to Anna for daring to go all super-cool-alien-y.

don’t you think she looked really pretty?

Love Camilla Belle in Armani Prive too. Caroline Trentini looked almost Catwoman like. Not a fan of that Pucci dress on Joy Bryant.

Haha yeah Anna really stood out, she loves to wear Chanel couture for the MET ball, and i know that rodarte! it reminds me of mermaids…

    What a glam overload!
I personally preferred Marc Jacobs; on himself, Sofia Coppola, Karen Elson and Jack White. Other notables were Kate Bosworth (who is she?) in vintage Chanel (Great with the make-up) and the Tilda Swinton pic (Prada) with her and some guy in drag.
I would have loved to see more models, and recent ones at that, there.

it seems like EVERYONE was at this event, probably more than the oscars. i thought kate moss, diane kruger, scarlett johanssen, julia roberts and dita von teese looked amazing. victoria beckham looked terrible, and i hated what jenniffer connelly wore.
