Nina Garcia left ELLE

April 12, 2008

”Elle is said to have parted company with its fashion director and “Project Runway” star and author Nina Garcia sources said late Friday.”

What I am thinking:

  • Nina does have a life outside ELLE, which means if she doesn’t like the job or whatsoever, she has something to fall back on, like the judging role at the very popular and highly rated Project Runway (which has a fifth season coming up real soon, the audition for castings had just closed). She also wrote “The Little Black Book of Style”.
  • Maybe she wants to spend more time with her newborn baby? (Even Phoebe Philo would give up her lucrative job at Chloe for that…)
  • She might have been offered a position (with better pay of course) at somewhere major, any fashion company would love to grab her now because of the publicity that tags along.

I am still pretty shocked, but I can’t wait to hear about her next move.

I’m actually more surprised that it took her that long to leave Elle. She was probably making more money for less work with “Project Runway” and the Blackberry ads.

Tim Gunn left Parsons to run Liz Claiborne last year and came out with a book too.

Maybe she’ll surprise us with something better.
