McNeil’s revival

March 29, 2008

The Aussie was a sensation a year ago. I remember how she burst into the scene opening coveted shows and fronting Versace in her first season— never a humble beginning. Then it came a time when people started doubting that her success is not going to last long because she blew up too fast (labelling her as ‘The Next Supermodel’ when she was just a mint fresh newbie?) so she ended up with a rather bland Spring/Summer 08′.

But right now Cath is gaining notice again minus the ‘Next Supermodel’ tag. I guess she did it by keeping a low profile and ignoring the backlash thrown at her. I am actually very impressed with her recent editorial work, like these covers shot by Greg Kadel for Numéro. Maybe another turning point for her is— being freed from Mario Testino’s contract. He photographed her for a few major campaigns but other than that nothing helped in grooming her career. Maybe it would be another story if she was signed under Steven Meisel instead.
In fact, that would be a very different story.

And not forgetting to mention finally being cast in the all-important Prada show even though her agency is not IMG or WOMEN (yes Russell is bias). That is very significant.

Cat’s my fav model of the moment.Love her feline allure and non-chalante attitude. She’s looking better than ever.I always thought of her as the next Daria.I see her often in French Vogue. As we speak Russell Marsh is in a mini scandal about accepting bribes for favouring certain models.

Yeah I agree that she’s feline-like and absolutely sexy. I think she’s fierce and glam as top Hollywood diva.

wow, only one year into modeling and already going through a revival? lol. but yeah, her editorial work with testino was awful. good thing she’s out of that contract. she really isn’t a bad model, she just didn’t live up to the hype.

I haven’t gotten her appeal yet. Maybe with more editorial work, I might grow to like her.

    Love her Numero covers though.

i think she has a strong look, but she never varies here look. not like agyness, gemma, for example, who convey such personality and variety. maybe she will grow. maybe, as you said, if she’d been under meisel’s wing. she just looks so wooden.

Well, for me she`s just a perfect looking shell. Maybe she will grow into it. I certainly don`t hate her like Agyness, Mariacarla and some others…
