Chanel Fall 08′

After the hideous giant bow for SS08 and couture’s 75 ft tall jacket, I guess Karl’s finally gotten it right with a dreamy merry-go-round setting. Yes, there were giant bangles and quilted bags too (as I had once predicted), but this time the iconic accessories are decorated in a more tasteful way.  It’s been a long while since Karl did something as pleasantly surprising as this for Chanel. At least, he still manages to churn out fresh ideas like this once in a while to keep his customers & fans interested! What do you think?

What’s call gorgeous? This is it.
I think the shots are simply a stunning vision of lightness and grace. My favourite is the one in Lanvin. Remember that Spring/Summer 08′ ad campaign shot by Steven Meisel? This looks like it. But what caught my eyes is the way the fabrics swirled around the dancers’ body like they have a life of their own. I really love these! What do you think?

I hate celebrity covers but…

I wouldn’t mind Gwen Stefani

This is just amazing and I guess that no one else can rock this sultry babydoll look better than Gwen, not even Kirsten.

Dior Fall’08: what went wrong

February 26, 2008 · 7 Comments

1. The makeup
Photobucket
To tone down on the makeup is like a crime because Galliano is always big on drama and flamboyance. But I think it’s time to let go a bit and try a more subtle look.
”Chop off the heads, as it were, and what was left was a wearable collection that will be legible to all women …” — Sarah Mower, style.com

2. The gowns
                    Photobucket
These are really unflattering. Maybe the preggers celebs would wear it… and haven’t we seen all these jewels/embellishments on satin fabrics look many many times before?
The white one on the right totally reminds me of Viktor & Rolf Spring/Summer 08.

3. The direction
           Photobucket
Some of the pieces remind me of the latest Spring/Summer 08 Haute Couture and the cruise collection. Even the theme and the styling seem similar— he is always going for the 60s’.

On the other hand, all the pieces are very suited for editorials indeed, like the cowprint jacket and bold coloured coats… Do expect loads of Dior splashed acrossed the year-end fash mag covers.

Best of Milan

Collections that I like so far:

Jil Sander
Photobucket
The coats with the structural collars are the killer— wearing them is like wearing a piece of architectural art. I also like the fact that the coats are not as boring as the previous fall collection’s, there are more shapes and silhouettes this time. But I don’t understand why Sarah Mower of style.com doesn’t like Raf’s work.
For the latest fall 08′ she thinks that ”there are aspects of Simon’s work that need further refinement.”
For Spring/Summer 08: ”To be picky on the pragmatic front, though… there are difficulties.”
How did she manage to pick out all the little flaws out of a seemingly perfect collection that is of true Raf-Simons-for-Jil-Sander style?

Burberry Prorsum
Photobucket
The feathers and the flared pants are obviously similar to what he had done for the menswear but I still like them. Christopher is creative and every season he managed to put in a new vibe into the collection that appeals to wide range of customers/fans of the label. Genius.

Versace
Photobucket
I was quite shocked at how much I like the Versace pieces. The colours, the gowns and the shoes are simply amazing. Like what everyone else is saying, Donatella is definitely improving.

March 08′ magazine covers

February 22, 2008 · 8 Comments

US Vogue
Photobucket
Drew Barrymore in Lanvin photographed by Steven Meisel, for her third US Vogue cover. She gets to front it once a year. Come on Anna Wintour, I just think that someone would have deserved the cover more than Drew.

UK Vogue
Photobucket
Kate Moss. The styling reminds me of her Fall 07 Longchamp ads.

French Vogue
Photobucket
Lara Stone in Prada. That’s fierce!

Spanish Vogue
Photobucket
Doutzen Kroes in Prada.

Korean Vogue
Photobucket
Doutzen Kroes in Prada.

Japanese Vogue
Photobucket
Angela Lindvall in Prada. I don’t want to use that word but I’m sick of seeing so many Pradas on the covers. Yawns. By the way, what’s wrong with the styling here on Angela? The hair and the pose are so wrong.

Australian Vogue
Photobucket
Jessica Hart in Gucci. Finally, they shot their own cover.

Chinese Vogue
Photobucket
Sasha Pivovarova in Jil Sander. Any idea why most of Sasha’s covers are pink-ish? And I am still wondering where is she this season? I miss her on the runways.

Portugese Vogue
Photobucket
Suvi Koponen in Louis Vuitton

German Vogue
Photobucket
Elise Crombez

Russian Vogue
Photobucket
Newly retired Natalia Vodianova.

Men’s Vogue
Photobucket
Viggo Mortensen

Teen Vogue
Photobucket
Gossip Girls’ Blake Lively. I knew that she is going to get the cover when she started attending so many fashion shows, like Chanel Haute Couture…

Numero
Photobucket
Suvi Koponen

Japanese Numero
Photobucket
Doutzen Kroes. What a month for her, she has got three major covers already.

W
Photobucket
Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman both in Miu Miu. Scarlett is definitely more eye-catching than Natalie here!

Korean W
Photobucket
Catherine McNeil

US Harper’s BAZAAR
Photobucket
Lindsay Lohan. She has been attracting loads of controversy lately for her nude Marilyn Monroe photoshoot for NYMag.

UK Harper’s BAZAAR
Photobucket
Gisele Bundchen in Prada, again?

Singapore Harper’s BAZAAR
Photobucket
Hana Soukoupova in Louis Vuitton. This is not a rip-off. Hana was photographed exclusively in Malaysia for this cover.

US ELLE
Photobucket
Amy Adams. Good choice of cover star— a worthy actress.
