Fall trend alert: paddings

September 30, 2007 · 1 Comment

You don’t have to look fat, and ‘ugly bubbly’ wearing paddings. Designers like the late Gianfranco Ferre and Giles Deacon had innovated the new padded style, so now you can look cool while keeping yourself cosy in the cold season.

It will be more chic if the hair is tied up instead of letting it loose. As proportion matters a lot when it comes to oversized coats, hair style or other accessories should be kept minimal and simple.

The one of the right reminds me of… a muscular six-pac man. I like how the pads of different shapes and sizes are arranged strategically.

First faces @ Milan SS08′ Fashion Week

September 29, 2007 · 2 Comments

No matter she’s new or pro, getting to nab the opening slot for a coveted fashion show is definitely a boost for any model’s career as it marks the significance of her presence for the designer and his new collection. This season, another unknown opened for Prada while Natasha Poly opened four shows of which three are big ones. Suvi is doing quite well too.  On the other hand, I’m watching newcomers Siri Tollerod and Lera Sheremeta (opened for Marc Jacobs) very closely, you’ll be seeing a lot more of them in Paris. Stay tuned.

Milan SS08 Fashion Week Day1-5 review+videos

September 27, 2007 · 2 Comments

1. Check out the videos of the latest Milan SS08 runways…

Missoni

Jil Sander

Buberry Prorsum

Giorgio Armani

Moschino Cheap & Chic

2.Interesting Style.com reviews…

On Bottega Veneta:
“…Scan the section of flowy, crinkle-creased shirtdresses and goddess draping and you’d need a heart of stone not to think, There goes something gorgeous…”

On Burberry Prorsum:
“…the sexiest version of Burberry yet.”

On Prada:
” When Miuccia is fed up with being perverse in the anarchic-fierce way, she’ll change tack yet again and go against the grain by being so sweetly unchallenging you (almost) can’t recognize her. “

On Missoni:
“It’s just that… Missoni would do better to devise a more intimate way of showing them, rather than in a cavernous old-style Italian industry venue with raked seating, as they do. Which brings us back to the original observation.”

On Jil Sander:
“One: The crop of the jacket might work on a flat-chested beanpole model, but on a woman with a real-life bosom? Two: Those super-skinny pants are not the most forgiving when viewed from behind… his liking for hot pink, orange, and vivid royal blue seems unlikely to hit the spot at retail.”

On Alessandro Dell’Acqua:
“…fans are probably young enough to enjoy the revival—or simply to not give a damn.”

On Gianfranco Ferre:
“This is a collection in holding pattern, and a confused one at that. Ferré and his legacy deserve more.”

3.Under the magnifying glass…

I’m loving these studs ( or buttons?) at Burberry. They look really exquisite and it feels like wearing a prized coin collection. I think those belts are one of the must-haves for Spring.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Christopher Bailey must be thinking of loving couples when he designed these similar versions of the neon blue trenches for both menswear and womenswear.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
These shoes are not made for walking. Did any model fell down during the Alessandro Dell’Acqua show?

Missoni’s colourful Hawaii beach inspired accessories.

Known for not putting any logos on their bags, this is Bottega Veneta’s updated version of the famous woven bags.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
I was stunned to see the latest range of shoes from Prada. What’s your opinion?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
And yeah, Agyness dyed her hair to black right before the Milan shows. She looks better in this, very edgy and as unique as ever.

4. News

“Swedish designer Lars Nilsson will succeed Gianfranco Ferré at the late designer’s house.” reported by WWD.

How sexy is this? Obviously, we can never wear a water dress in real life but you know what, this is just plain gorgeous, minus the sex appeal.

Roberto Cavalli for H&M

September 23, 2007 · No Comments

Exclusive sneak peeks…

The ad campaign

Cavalli gathered friends and models at his hilltop home in Florence and used his garden, as the backdrop for his H&M campaign, shot by Terry Richardson. “

Seems like he’s still very keen on the ‘wild’ side. I spotted a giraffe-print trench coat at the backgtound and there are hints of animal prints everywhere.

The interview

(Taken from elleuk.com)

ELLE UK: Who is your H&M collection for?
CAVALLI: Young people, they always tell me they can’t buy Cavalli because it’s too expensive.

Are you inspired by your younger customers?
The people who know most about fashion are the young. They pay attention to the shows and know what they want.

Describe the Cavalli woman.
A self-confident, versatile woman who knows how to enjoy life.

Your favourite items for H&M?
The jeans and long dress in leopard print - any woman who wears this will feel like she’s on the red carpet.

What is it with you and animal prints?
Animal prints are a Cavalli logo like nature - I could say God is the most fabulous designer in the world. Why do I use tigers and leopards? Because women like it - it’s a sexy design.

What makes a good pair of jeans?
I still like the very low waist - this makes jeans sexy. I also work with a special fabric that makes my jeans stretchy and lifted.

What attracts you to dressing supermodels?
I like to see my clothes worn perfectly. But it’s not about a pretty face; it’s the way they move. When Naomi Campbell came to see me in the shop, she tried on a dress. She came out of the changing room and the way she moved… she transformed that dress.

Your style is very continental - do you think British women dress differently to Italians?
I tell you, there isn’t so much difference any more - they admire the same celebrities, the same designers, read the same magazines.

What attracts you to London?
People can be inspired by fashion. I love the sensations set up by young designers.

How do you think people will respond to your collection here?
The British are my biggest fans!

I have always like H&M’s marketing ways. They do earn big bucks for their genius business brains but what’s important is that they grant us our wish of wearing designers clothes at real affordable prize and feel like a celebrity!

October Magazine Covers

                                            Indian Vogue
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
A sneak peek of the cover that everyone has been dying to see. The first cover of Vogue India has been graced by faces that are adored both in India & abroad — Bipasha Basu, Gemma Ward, Priyanka Chopra, Monikangana, Preity Zinta and Laxmi Menon. They have been photographed by Patrick Demarchelier. I don’t know, but it looks a bit cheap.

Keira Knightley. I knew that she’s going to grace this month’s UK Vogue cover, her new movie Atonement just came out… and she’s been rocking the red carpet of her premieres.

Ok this is a September issue, not October, but I’m putting it here anyway. Agyness Deyn in a Prada fringe cape with a bunch of ’soldiers’, for this war themed cover.

                                         Spanish Vogue

Hilary Rhoda in an Emaunel Ungaro fur coat. Has not been seeing her lately on the runways…

I sort of ’stole’ this from their website so it explains why this pict is in such irregular shape…
That’s korean supermodel Hye Park by the way.

                                    Australian Vogue
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
I think Vogue Australia sucks. I’m sorry but I think it’s just really bad. Other than the fact that it’s very thin, they keep reusing other magazine’s editorials and even borrow them to use as their magazine cover! I remember how they reused W Magazine’s Kirsten Dunst cover a few months ago. Gemma’s ‘cover’ is actually taken from UK Vogue’s September issue’s ‘Indian Summer’ editorial. Please, it’s V-O-G-U-E, please.

                                          Chinese Vogue

Mackenzie Hamilton in Chanel for this ‘Classic Chic’ issue. By the way, I do own a lot of Chinese Vogues because they are real cheap! They cost like US$2+ and the content is not bad, loads of Du Juan.

James Franco. Very handsome Spidey baddie.

Riiiiight off the runways

September 20, 2007 · 2 Comments

Celebs can have all the most ridiculous priviledges we can never thought of. See this, they can wear clothes from the Spring/Summer 08′ collections when now it is still in the 2007 summer season. Either the designers are dying to promote their yet-to-be-in-stores pieces or those celebs are just plain desperate to be in front of the fashion pack, we are talking about real exclusivity here.

Kate Moss for Topshop: Fall/Winter collection

September 19, 2007 · 4 Comments

Obviously the hype has disappeared. The launch of this new collection is so quiet that I didn’t know about it until I saw the pictures in hellomagazine.com. Can’t spot any significant ones that spells sell-out like the debut collection’s one shoulder summer dress. However, there are many different looks in this collection, from geeky to rock-chic to preppy. It’s no doubt affordable and if you’re a fan of Topshop and Kate, go get them.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Start off with a very comfy grey cashmere jumper. It looks versatile enough to be worn over and over again and it’s easy to be paired with. Plus, grey is a must-have colour for the cold season.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Grey cashemere jumper £65.00

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
This is great for wearing to the office or formal events. Reminds us of why we love her style so much— she never looks boring in anything, even officewear.

Tweed waistcoat £40.00, tie neck scarf £20.00 and wide leg trousers £50.00 .

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
More boho-chic floaty printed dresses…
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Clover print dress £65.00

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
This is geeky! Feels very back-to-school and I like the layering.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Blue stripe shirt £35.00 ,pink tank jumper £35.00 and stevie jeans £50.00

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Unconventionally sexy. Totally covered up but there’s still this cool edge about this look.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Wet look jersey maxi dress £50.00 (Do wear it with a belt)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
This ’studs’ trend is currently very in, blame Buberry. I like how minimal the studs are lined at the collar of this halter.Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Jersey halter dress £40.00

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Two other pieces that I like from this collection, the very elegant looking white chiffon blouse £65.00 and the green one shoulder dress with lots of pleating £120.00

In the US, it’s available at Barneys, New York. Price US$9.00-169.00. The clothes are on sale now, click here to check them out.
