Smoking is bad. I don’t think I need to explain any more about that. It really gets on my nerves to see so many models smoking at the backstage of the fashion shows. Some says that it helps to kill their hunger and boredom or just simply relieve stress… but do they know how bad it is for the skin? Come on, it’s their faces that earn them a living. What’s worse, fashion editorials constantly feature models smoking… Aren’t they a bunch of bad influence?

Gemma Ward looks so innocent I absolutely can’t believe that she smokes! (It’s caught on video) I heard that she got on smoking only after joining the modelling industry.

Freja Beha Erichsen, the face of Chanel for two straight seasons. That’s funny, smoking infront of a ‘Absolutely NO smoking’ sign’!

Jessica Stam. I saw another photo of her smoking while strolling with Paris Hilton. Yeah, she often gets inked with the Hollywood circuit.

It’s been long since there is a red carpet event to blog about and now ta-dah!
Even though stars & celebs don’t really dressed up in high fashion but laid-back glamour for the Teen Choice Awards, I still like to see how they rock their mini dresses and casual style.

(Sorry for the ‘wireimage‘ ink mark…)

Bold and brightly coloured frocks are ‘the thing’ for Jessica Alba, Emmy Rossum and Lauren Conrad. Since it’s all about teenagers, these playful summer dresses can sure mix with the youthful energy around. Jessica Alba looks good in her yellow Yigal Azrouel dress , but the white platform heels are blah. I like Emmy Rossum’s one shoulder chiffon Catherine Malandrino dress a lot, from the colours to the silhouette… it looks adorable on her. On the other hand, Lauren’s dull bubble dress (she designed it) is very last season.

Satin! Rapper Eve, American Idol #6 Jordin Sparks and ‘High School Muscial’ babe Vanessa Hudgens all went for this sexy grown-up look with shimmery gowns & tops to catch the photog’s attention. Eve looks great in the Yves Saint Laurent jumpsuit, Jordin could have gotten a better hairstyle while Vanessa shouldn’t let the gown swallow her petite figure! Come on, show some legs like what others do!

I really like the understated glamour that Fergie ( in Moschino Cheap & Chic), Kelly Clarkson (in BCBG) and Sophie Bush ( in Hervé Légér )have shown in their red carpet get-up. Proves that a simple tube dress with the right heels and hair is enough.

Transformers starlet Megan Fox’s grey tunic+ black leggings ensemble is so boring! I have seen how gorgeous she was at her movie premieres so this is definitely disappointing. I have a problem with Avril Lavigne’s rock-chick style, but I just don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s the sneakers. She’s already short and they make her look shorter. Hilary Duff’s metallic Corey Lynn Calter dress looks great actually, but she dyed her hair back to blonde and it seemed to blend in with the golden part of the dress… She ends up looking weird.

The legendary fragrances are back with their new versions…

                            Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere

You have to agree that Chanel No. 5 is one of the most iconic fragrances in the world with that famous Marilyn Monroe quote. Now it’s back with a lighter, fresher, softer interpretation of the N°5 series that goes with the modern woman. It includes “all of N°5’s original ingredients— rose absolute, jasmine, neroli and ylang-ylang, but rebalanced in a lighter, airier formula by master perfumer Jacques Polge”.
Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere is $125 for 150ml, available now at Saks and other Chanel retailers. Hmm…it’s worth a sniff.
Nicole Kidman is fronting the ad campaign again as usual.

                        Christian Dior Midnight Poison

This is the fifth fragrance in Christian Dior’s Poison Saga, which dates back to 1985. The latest Poison, inspired by the tale of Cinderella, “starts out with fruity top notes of mandarine and bergamot, glides into a rose heart and leaves an amber-y and woody wake composed of patchouli, amber, and bourbon vanilla”… all captured in a beautiful mysterious midnight blue bottle.

“Perfume is so seductive, so magical; it was only natural that the search for Midnight Poison’s muse should be led to midnight, and ultimately one of the most romantic heroines of them all: Cinderella,” Galliano says of his fairytale muse, which he has brought to life with French actress Eva Green as the face of the new Poison Parfum.

What I noticed is how different the style of these two fashion houses are, even in fragrances. Chanel is a real classic, while Dior is into boldness and seduction.

I’ve been waiting for ages for this trailer to come out.  Gemma took time off from modelling to shoot this movie ‘The Strangers’ which has Liv Tyler & Scott Speedman in the lead roles. The very very sad thing is, what’s a pretty face doing behind an ugly mask, acting as a psycho and trying to kill another pretty face?
Well, on the other hand, she has also been cast in Australian director Elissa Down’s upcoming film ‘The Black Balloon’ starring Toni Collette and Rhys Wakefield. She acts as the girlfriend of a boy whose brother has autism. This one, we shall finally see her face on the movie screens.

By the way, I saw this video of her SMOKING at the backstage of the Lanvin show. Can’t believe that almost every model smokes nowadays… too stressful maybe?

This is what happens when two of the current most popular  denim trend —coloured skinny and high-waisted jeans— mix together…

Supermodel Naomi Campbell is making headlines again, but this time, it’s for a good cause. According to sfgate.com, Naomi has criticized Vogue for not featuring enough black models on the magazine’s covers.

She says: “Black models are being sidelined by the major modeling agencies. It is a pity that people don’t appreciate black beauty.

“Even myself, I get a raw deal from my own country in England.

“For example, I hardly come on the front pages of the London Vogue magazine. Only white models, some of whom are not as prominent as I am, are put on splash pages. I don’t want to quit modeling until I find that black models get equal prominence and recognition by the world media and information instruments.”

I totally agree with her. Not only the blacks, asian models are also not getting enough coverage in fashion. White girls have got basically everybody’s idea of perfection and people can’t seen to accept another kind of beauty other than them. I wish to see the standards of beauty in fashion redefined, like what ELLE magazine did for their November 1997 issue—–putting a dark-skinned African model Alek Wek on the cover. That was probably one of the fashion moment that will go down in history.

That’s how Alek Wek’s career got kicked off and right now, she still catwalks for shows like Christian Dior Haute Couture,

Though quite rare, Vogue does try to include black models on their occasional ‘next top models’ covers.

Liya Kebede in Vogue’s nine supermodels cover in 2005. She’s famous for being the first black model for Estee Lauder and her efforts for charity groups. Liya’s got a few FW07 runways under her belt, most notably opening the Roberto Cavalli show, but I think she has cut down her workload after giving birth to her child.

Chanel Iman is definitely one of the most coveted black models around right now. At 16, the African-Korean’s still young but has already achieved an impressive runway record. What she needs now is a major magazine cover, editorials and more ad campaigns.

On the other hand, here are three up-and-coming black models that you should watch out for…

Victoria’s Secret used three black models (Ajuma Nasanyana, Oluchi Onweagba and Selita EBanks) for their 2006 show. And of course, not forgetting Tyra & Naomi who modelled for their 2005 show.

The latest Moschino ad featured seven black models. Super cool. I can’t recognize any of them except Kinee Diouf (far left) but I really like this ad.

This is the second anniversary issue and Du Juan is on the cover again, with three other up-and-coming chinese models namely Stephanie Shiu, Mackenzie Hamilton ( canadians with a chnese face???) and Emma Pei, all in Louis Vuitton. My favourite model on the cover is Emma (far right), who opened Dior couture’s SS07 show and has since walked the runways of Miu Miu, Dries Van Noten and Alberta Ferretti. The hair here reminds me of MaxMara’s SS07 ad campaign with Lara & Vlada though.

                                              US Vogue

I got a copy of this yesterday because the words ‘…Biggest Issue Ever… 840 pages of fearless fashion…’ caught my attention and even though I dislike celebrity covers, Sienna looks really gorgeous in this Marchesa feathered top. But I thought there has been a thicker issue of US Vogue? Plus, it got really thick because there are loads of new ad campaigns for the latest Fall/Winter collections, they fill in 2/3 of the 800+ pages and get this—- the last of the four content pages ends at page146. Another thing I hate is that, Caroline Trentini is jumping in her editorial with the same expression again.
But you got to check out the other editorials, they are god damn fabulous, with Shalom Harlow & Daria Werbowy starring in some of them. I call ‘Paris je t’aime’ the must-see editorial of the year. The shots are breathtaking.

I bought this too! Because Sasha Pivovarova, in a Christian Dior pink gown, is on the cover. She has nabbed three covers for the September issues already. This is my first time buying UK Vogue and I think it’s alright. I love the Gemma Ward ‘Indian Summer’ editorial in it.

                                     Australian Vogue

Alice Burdeu in a Gucci gown. If that name doesn’t sound familiar to you, she is actually the winner of ‘Australia’s Next Top Model’. While winner of the US version can only nab an ELLE cover, Alice gets to appear on a Vogue cover… all by herself! She looks ok, considering the fact that Gemma Ward and Catherine McNeil are Aussies, she’s almost nothing compared to them.

Can’t get rid of that recycle bag blocking the cover but Agyness Deyn, in a Burberry studded dress, is fronting this very environmental conscious issue. No wonder Aggy is so coveted in the fashion world right now, check out her pose & looks! She is one of a kind, cool & edgy lass and simply too handsome to handle.

Caroline Trentini… And what? 1000+ pages?! I thought only US Vogue has the cheek to scream 849 pages on the cover with all the new fall/winter ad campaigns…

‘Goddess Gwyneth’? She share such an uncanny resemblance to Heidi Klum here! Anyways, it’s good to see her back after dedicating her time and shedding away from the limelight for her children. I would prefer to see a classier shot of her than this though.

Anne Hathaway in Donna Karan. It must be hard to find covergirls for Teen Vogue. They have to be young (below 25?) and they have to be celebrities, not professional models. It’s exciting to see who will land on the cover of Teen Vogue every month!

After last month’s Jessica Simpson cover that still gives me goosebumps every time I think of it, this looks slightly better. Kate’s bright & beautiful smile wins them all.

Can’t resist taking a picture of Rihanna’s cover. I love the Guess by Marciano dress that she’s wearing. Apparently, she came to Singapre for a stopover in July before heading to Tokyo for Live Earth. She did this covershoot in 15mins and still look so gorgeous and un-photoshopped.
