pixie blonde crop

April 30, 2007 · No Comments

Have you been thinking of a major makeover? Something that will surprise your friends, family… and give you a change of attitude? I’ve seen how this hairstyle revived the career of certain models and how celebrities catch media attention with it.

Ok it all started with a 60’s cultural icon, Edie Sedgwick…

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
other than her socialite status back then, her most iconic feature’s got to be her pixie hairstyle. It’s so classic that people have been calling it the ‘edie crop’ till now.

model Agyness Deyn ,who is on the cover of US Vogue’s ‘it’ girls issue, has been such a hit with the fashion world. So far she’s been featured in ad campaigns of Giorgio Armani, Mulberry and opened the shows for Jean Paul Gaultier, Burberry… Designers love her punky ‘rockstar’ looks & attitude.

with that sort of hair, she can rock any outfit on the runways.

this is what I mean by revival of a modelling career. After dying and chopping off her long black locks, model Mariacarla Boscono has been hotter than ever with endless bookings going her way, not to mention her rising profile.

model Anja Rubik, who was featured in the Estee Lauder fragrance ads, is back with a new crop. Totally love it! expect more upcoming editorials & bookings from this hottie.

Michelle Williams from Brokeback Mountain and Selma Blair. The pixie cut looks really great on Michelle.

guys who went for it… Gerard Way of goth rock band My Chemical Romance and David Beckham.

However, one has to mind the faceshape on whether it suits this hairdo or it doesn’t. But this is definitely an ultra cool & versatile hairstyle worth trying for. Come on, you only get to live once!

Black & white stripes

April 29, 2007 · No Comments

Black & white sounds very Chanel. Safe, versatile & classy but in stripes, they can look pretty awful if you don’t know how to wear it. Here is my take on how to get this trend right without looking like a zebra or a prisoner…

celebrities who wear this trend. Sienna Miller in Calvin Klein, Gwen Stefani in her own label, L.A.M.B, and Thandie Newton in Giles Deacon. The dresses are all tight and curve-hugging, short, shoulder-baring and they definitely make a bold statement on the red carpet.

Avril Lavigne probably loves b&w stripes. This trend can make her look rocker-cool or really sexy… She’s worn the cleavage baring Giorgio Armani gown (bottom left)to last year’s Cannes Film Festival.

May 07′ magazine covers

April 27, 2007 · No Comments

Here’s my update on the latest fashion magazine covers…

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Firstly, I will start off with the Numero. I love this magazine not only because of the content but Numero’s covers have always been fashionably artistic and they feature highly-rated models like this covergirl, Hilary Rhoda (she is also on the cover of the US Vogue top models issue) who’s in a violet gown by Yves Saint Laurent. The photographer behind this cover is Greg Kadel.

Coco Rocha (another ‘it’ girl from that US Vogue) on the cover of Numero Tokyo.

Vogue Espana (Spain) with model Heather Marks by Helena Christensen. I didn’t know that Danish supermodel can be a fashion photographer too? I LOVE the Yves Saint Laurent floral violet dress that Heather is wearing on the cover. Katherine Mcphee (last season’s American Idol runner-up) wore the same dress in her first music video ‘over it’.

Vogue Paris featuring Sophie Marceau by Mario Testino.

Vogue UK. Natalia Vodianova in a Emilio Pucci metallic mini with Razorlight frontman, Johnny Borrell. He’s only the 7th man to ever appear on the cover of this fashion bible. Why him?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Vogue Nippon (Japan) featuring Coco Rocha, shot by Craig McDean. I think the futuristic look is really cool and Coco totally rocked it!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
hmm… not supposed to blog about next month’s magazine covers but this is a sneak peek of the June issue of Vogue Nippon featuring the elegant Doutzen Kroes in Dolce & Gabbana.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
the much talked-about Vogue US cover featuring the latest topmodels. Ok this is a rather blur picture but you can check out my post on ‘US Vogue May 07′ ‘. They are all wearing the GAP designer collection ( I’ve got a post commenting on that collection too)

Russian model Valentina in a Ralph Lauren gown, on the cover of… erm… Russian Elle.

Elle UK featuring Jennifer Lopez. Celebrities…

Harper’s Bazaar featuring Gwen Stefani. Celebr….

lastly, Vogue Australia with model Caroline Trentini and Teen Vogue featuring Emma Roberts.

Ok that’s all. I’ll update the June covers soon…

huge puffy tiers

April 26, 2007 · No Comments

I passed by a Zara boutique a few weeks ago and there was this fabulous dress on the mannequin display that caught my eyes. I don’t really shop at Zara but that frock is just so attractive. I had to take a good look at it. Zara, the large Spanish retail chain, is famous for its quality products at affordable prices and the clothes are really trendy. It’s a hit with women who are at their twenties or thirties.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
That dress from Zara’s Spring/Summer 07′ collection. The huge puffy tiers are so darling and flirty. It can be worn on numerous occasions and it looks good with leggings.

a Spring/Summer 07′ runway show from Gucci, whose version of the dress is way more sexier in terms of colour and fabric.

Overall, I think the selling point of it is that the top HUGE layer of the tiers is sewn above the breastline. Something that is very unique and different from the usual puffy-at-the-bottom frocks. It doesn’t flaunt your assets but it can definitely catch attention.

work the scarf

April 25, 2007 · No Comments

Have you ever thought of using the scarf as an accessory? SCARVES. I mean thin ones if the weather is hot. Whenever you feel empty at the neck, instead of using necklaces, pretty scarves can be used as an alternative to light up your outfit. It also gives you that casual ‘on-the-go’ look.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
the best example has got to be taken from Burberry Prorsum’s Autumn/Winter 05/06 runway show. The navy blue scarf almost snatched the attention away from the yellow dress. However, to work those thin & long scarves with the bell-shaped end, one has to mind the proportions of the outfit on whether it matches the scarf or it doesn’t.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
another look from the same Burberry runway. The scarves look so pretty on lowcut dresses.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
The models rocked the ”motherly nurse” look on the Loewe Spring/Summer 07′ runway. Those neat white ’scarves’ complimented the clothings really well.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
a Spring/Summer 07′ runway show from the king of the casual jet-setting style, Michael Kors.
The layered outfit on the right is SO cool. A “masculine vs feminine” type of dressing. M’Kors is really genius, he presented a new way of wearing the manly formal jacket.

the more playful scarves… from Burberry (again)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Michael Kors’s linen scarf, also available in white and Missoni’s striped knited scarf. desginer scarves can be purchased from net-a-porter.com or saksfifthavenue.com where there’s a wide range of scarves from brands like Emilio Pucci, Donna Karan, Giorgio Armani, Christian Lacroix and of course Burberry! priced at $100-$350.

the Ballerina look

April 23, 2007 · 8 Comments

Well, if you can’t be a dancer, it doesn’t mean that you can’t dress like one. Lately, I’ve seen a few ballerina themed runway shows and I think it’s an up-and-coming trend not to be missed. Ballerinas are the ultimate symbol of grace and , together with the costumes, they look like fairies whenever they perform. It’s innocently beautiful and the look evokes ‘ fragile lady’.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
the ballerina look- piles of tulles & chiffons at the waist.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Valentino’s Spring/Summer 07′ runway show, piled with loads and loads of ruffles on the dresses. He’s got inspirations from ballerinas to create that soft, gorgeous and ultra-feminie collection. Red headbands & dark red lips are added on to make sure that this collection does not look too young for the grown-up, glamourous style of traditional Valentino.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
On the other hand, Michael Kors injected his signature American jet-setting style to the ballerina look. A busy ballerina, perhaps?

Doo Ri’s Spring/Summer 05′ collection

ribbons and soft leggings to complete the look, as seen here from Nina Ricci’s Autumn/Winter 07/08 show. The transparent towering heels make you look like really tip-toeing, an illusion of when the ballerinas are dancing.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
to get the look in the affordable way…you can consider getting the white flared skirt from Topshop or the white halter dress from Forever 21, I recommend wearing it with a dark ribbon or belt at the waist.

Go rock the ballerina look and you are going to look youthful, poised & elegant just like them!

GAP designer collection

April 22, 2007 · 1 Comment

In an effort to pull itself out of sales slump, Gap, the American label famous for its crisp white shirts, are introducing a limited-edition collection of women’s clothing made exclusively by design labels Doo.Ri, Rodarte and Thakoon, all of whom are winners of the CDFA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award. What strikes me most is that Doo Ri (Korean) & Thakoon (Thai) are both asians. They are not only talented but really successful in terms of making it big in the tough fashion design circuit in New York city.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Doo Ri & Thakoon’s take on the classic GAP white shirt. I love the details of Doo Ri’s design (left). The layering is very neat and it looks masculine. Thakoon’s design involves a scarf and puffed sleeves.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
I’ve been a fan of Doo Ri’s label ever since i saw her runway pieces a year ago. Her signature style is smart, slouchy but sophisticated. And Doo Ri herself is a really cute-as-button kind of girl.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Thakoon likes to emphasize on the waist, as you can see with his two designs above. A former editor at Harper’s Bazaar and a graduate from Parsons, he can really work & rock the clothing’s structual. The short hemline & puffed sleeves are just so darling.
